Mijn ontvoering (“My kidnapping”) is the true story of the kidnapping of Toos van der Valk in 1982. For the first time, she told in full what happened to her during those twenty-one days. Elle van Rijn wrote the book at the request of the Van der Valk family, based on her account. It was published in November 2011.

The book is in Dutch.

The book and the series

In 2026, Netflix releases the drama series Toos: The Van der Valk Kidnapping, inspired by the same events. As is usual in a drama series, characters, conversations and scenes have been adapted or invented for the story. The book tells the story as Toos herself lived it.
